Dr. John has demonstrated national and international contributions to education as the founder and Executive Director of both the Nigeria Physiotherapy Network and Africa Physiotherapy Network through which he instituted a ‘Giving-Back Program’ for some Nigeria and African entry-level physical therapist education programs. Dr. John proposed a Vision 2020 and Vision 2030 of entry-level education standards for Africa, adopted by the WCPTA in 2014. He has served as a mentor to several colleagues in Nigeria and other parts of Africa. He actively recruited Nigerian-educated physical therapists based inside and outside Nigeria into the UM-Flint tDPT program, with the 6th cohort of students commencing their online degree program in fall 2016. At least 28–30 Nigerian physical therapists will have earned their DPT degrees through the UM-Flint–Nigeria Collaboration. He also facilitated a faculty exchange program between UM-Flint and Nigeria, bringing a physical therapy faculty from a Nigerian university (OAU) to UM-Flint through a 2013–2014 Fulbright Scholarship. Dr. John also initiated post-professional education programming cooperation between the WCPTA and APTA’s Neurology Section for African Physiotherapists.

Leadership Philosophy

Dr. John's leadership philosophy is rooted in the concept of Edupreneurial Leadership — a framework that fuses the discipline of academic excellence with the creative drive of entrepreneurship, all undergirded by the values of Servant Leadership.

He believes that the most effective academic leaders are those who serve first — who place the growth, development, and success of students, faculty, and community at the center of their decision-making. At the same time, great academic leaders must think boldly, innovate continuously, and be willing to take calculated risks in pursuit of transformative educational outcomes.

"I lead with my hands open," Dr. John has said, "ready to give, ready to receive, and always ready to serve."

Edupreneurial

Merging educational rigor with entrepreneurial innovation to create transformative learning environments.

Independent Consulting Practice

Beyond his university duties, Dr. John has served as an independent consultant to higher education institutions in the United States and internationally. In July 2013, at the personal invitation of Vice-Chancellor Professor Bartholomew Okolo, he conducted a comprehensive consultation visit to the Department of Medical Rehabilitation at the University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka and Enugu campuses. His assessment covered curriculum, faculty, students, and educational infrastructure — and his recommendations helped unblock a Senate-approved 5-year Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation (BMR) curriculum that had been stalled at the University Council for years. Following his report, the curriculum was released and implemented. His current consulting focus is the practical adoption of Artificial Intelligence in higher education and the health professions. All consulting services are provided in a personal capacity, independent of his institutional responsibilities.
